State tourism bureaus have novel marketing strategies. Some states market the excitement of their big cities, while other states lure visitors with the rugged natural beauty of their state's terrain. The Ohio tourism industry has a novel approach: divide Ohio into seven travel regions and brand each region with a unique personality.
The Seven Ohio Tourism Travel Regions
The seven Ohio tourism travel regions are: Northwest Ohio, North Central Ohio, Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, East Central Ohio, Southwest Ohio, and Southeast Ohio. History, wineries, and winter sports are the focus of the Northwest Ohio region, which is home to the Annie Oakley Museum. Visitors to this region will also want to see the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.
North Central Ohio tourism attractions appeal to the active tourist, who may want to go to an amusement park, a wildlife refuge, or a golf course. This region's rich historical attractions include the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, the Tiffin glass center, and the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum.
Music fans can rock out in Northeast Ohio, home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is a source of great pride to the Ohio tourism bureau. Central Ohio hosts tourism events and attractions like the PGA Memorial Golf Tournament, The Columbus Zoo, and an NHL hockey team, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Ohio Amish country is located in East Central Ohio, where Ohio tourism focuses on recreating Ohio history. This region features authentic farm markets and a library devoted to the nation's first ladies, from Martha Washington to Laura Bush. East Central Ohio is also home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which attracts football fans year-round.
Visitors to the Southwest Ohio region, which includes Cincinnati, can attend a Cincinnati Bengals professional football game, visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and learn all about flight at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, home of the Wright brothers.
Outdoor activities abound in Ohio's southeast travel region. Visitors are encouraged to explore Ohio's state parks, go camping, canoeing, horseback riding, or hiking in the Hocking Hills habitat area. Urban enthusiasts must be sure to visit the vast skate park located in Athens, a college town.
The Ohio tourism bureau earns kudos for its marketing savvy in creating these seven different regions. By dividing the state into geographical tourism zones, the bureau makes it easy for visitors to the state to allocate their time to one particular zone or to plan visits to all seven Ohio travel regions.
